Idlewise is an independent studio building a journal and an iOS app, currently in pre-launch. This policy explains what data the app and this website collect, how it is used, and your choices.
When you enter your email address on idlewise.co to join our list, that email is collected and stored by our email provider, Kit (formerly ConvertKit), on our behalf. We use it to tell you about Idlewise as we release it, across the journal and the app: new releases and availability, pre-release and founding pricing, and occasional member discounts. We will not sell it, share it with advertisers, or add you to unrelated mailing lists.
Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. To have your email removed from the list directly, contact us at hello@idlewise.app. Kit processes this data as described in its own privacy policy.
The rest of this policy covers the Idlewise iOS app, which is separate from this website and collects no email or personal identifiers.
This site runs no analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. It loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com); to serve those files Google receives your browser's IP address and request headers, as described in its privacy policy. No other third party receives data from this website.
The app sends two categories of data off your device. Both are anonymous; they are never connected to your name, email, Apple ID, or any other personal identifier. Everything else, including your blocking choices and your check-ins, stays on your device (see below).
Crash reports (processed by Sentry, Inc., in the United States). When the app crashes, a report is sent containing the crash stack trace, device model, OS version, and app version. A locally generated random identifier (a UUID stored only on your device) is included so we can group crashes from the same installation. This identifier is never linked to your identity or any account.
Anonymous usage signals (processed by TelemetryDeck GmbH, in the European Union). The app sends lightweight signals about how features are used, for example which tab you open, when you start a practice session, or when you complete a daily check-in. These signals contain no personal information. TelemetryDeck generates its own anonymous, hashed identifier internally; the app never sends it a user ID, device identifier, or email address.
Idlewise blocks the apps you choose using Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls and DeviceActivity). These frameworks are privacy-preserving by design: the app receives only opaque tokens for the apps you select, never their names as readable text, and it cannot read your actual Screen Time totals. The apps you pick, the reasons you set, and your blocking settings are stored only on your device, never on a server and never linked to your identity. The anonymous usage signals described above may record that an intervention happened, but never which app or any personal detail. You can revoke Idlewise's access to Screen Time at any time in your iPhone's Settings under Screen Time.
Personal identifiers. No name, email, Apple ID, iCloud ID, phone number, or advertising identifier is ever collected or transmitted by the app.
Free-text input. The app does not currently include text fields where you type personal thoughts, reflections, or notes. If a future version adds such a feature, this policy will be updated before that version ships.
Location, contacts, photos, health data, or any other sensitive device data. None of these are accessed or collected.
Crash reports are used to find and fix bugs. Usage signals are used to understand which features are helpful and to prioritize improvements. Neither category is sold, shared with advertisers, or used for tracking across other apps or websites.
Idlewise does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). The app collects no personal information; the website collects only the email you choose to give us, only to send you news about Idlewise.
In the app, analytics is on by default. You can turn it off at any time in the app's Settings under "Help improve Idlewise." Turning it off stops all crash reports and usage signals immediately. Turning it back on resumes collection. For the website waitlist, unsubscribe from any email or contact us to be removed.
Crash reports are retained by Sentry per their standard retention policy (see sentry.io/privacy). Usage signals are retained by TelemetryDeck per their standard retention policy (see telemetrydeck.com/privacy). Waitlist emails are retained by Kit until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed. Idlewise does not maintain its own backend or database. All personal app data (your check-ins, practice history, plan, and your app-blocking selections and settings) is stored only on your device.
Idlewise is designed for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the app or website, please contact us at hello@idlewise.app and we will investigate promptly.
Crash data is processed by Sentry in the United States. Usage data is processed by TelemetryDeck in the European Union. Both processors handle only anonymous data as described above. If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland and believe any data we process constitutes personal data under applicable law, you may contact us at hello@idlewise.app to exercise your rights under the GDPR, including the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection.
If this policy changes in a way that affects the type or scope of data collected, we will update this page and, for app data, notify you via an in-app notice before the change takes effect.
